Massbandleuchte

Rolling tape measures are masters of shape transformation. They can be rolled up in a small space and have a very stable condition when unrolled, despite their lightness. Properties, which are also interesting for a light system. Massbandleuchte is a light design that combines the properties of rolling tape measures with a light source.

Massbandleuchte

The combination of LED strip and the support material of curved steel forms a flexible luminous body. It can be stretched over long distances through the room, but can also be adapted to special room and lighting situations. Special guide rails are used for this purpose, which hold and/or redirect the luminous unit.

Light Switch

on - off is a light switch that confronts the users with the current power consumption. Instead of a toggle switch, a small loop protrudes from the housing of the light switch. The further the loop is pulled out of the switch, the longer the light burns. Over time, the strap retracts back until the light goes out again. The constant movement brings an invisible consumption back into view, and the recurring decision-making sharpens the consciousness.

Light Switch

Our behavior as consumers needs to change. Save electricity, save water, use sustainable materials. In fact, we already know what to do. But how can we change our habits when products make it hard for us to understand what and how much they consume? There is actually a positive trend toward more efficient and lower-consumption products. However, less consumption does not mean that they consume nothing at all. We rely on electronic cars that silently float through our streets. We buy vacuum cleaners that clean our homes when we're not at home. Energy consumption is something unpleasant for the environmentally conscious person and is increasingly hidden. The danger is to ignore consumption completely. With ignorance, our own assessment of our consumption is more difficult.

Glimps
2016/2020

Glimps

The light Memorygame

Glimps! the light memory works with a simplified principle of watermarking. From 3 layers of paper the middle one is perforated with precise lasercuts. This way the cards remain unprinted from the outside and the card motif remains invisible as long as no light steel falls on the card. A light source that can be used at any time is provided by the packaging, creating a completely new room atmosphere and thus a certain playing mood.

Glimps

The light Memorygame

During my Erasmus in Brussels I decided, together with Maxim de Grelle, to further develop the idea of the Light Memory and make it ready for the market. Glimps will enter production during 2021.

Memo

links sound to objects

The human brain works associatively. We think and remember by using objects that we know. At the beginning of this project I asked myself what it would be like to attach memory to objects that surround us. From this question I developed Memo. Memo allows to add voice and sound to specific places and objects. Deliberately separated from the smartphone, it is functionally open and intuitively designed for any ages. It can be a fun toy as well as a useful tool.

Cablestorage System

For TW I developed a product with very strict guidelines.
Yoyo is a modular cable storage system for storing cables at home and on the go. It is for people who want to keep order and need good accessibility and mobility of their cables.

Working with AI

In this project I dealt with the topic of artificial intelligence together with Tim Rumpf (multimedia and virtual reality design) and Ludwig Pfeiffer (communication design). In this semester, three interactive installations were developed, which were accompanied by an extensive publication.

7353

„7353“, a modern fable, tells of a device for donkey recognition. Current tendencies of technological development are humorously taken to the extreme: Public detection terminals can be found wherever there is an enhanced chance of confrontation with a donkey. When a donkey approaches, the display rotates by 180° and decodes the cryptic numerical codes of the black box: 7353 becomes ESEL (donkey).

Truth or Dare

The bottle turns and three self-sufficient smartphones play „Wahrheit oder Pflicht“ (Truth or Dare). If the bottleneck is pointed to one of the smartphones, the others will challenge it. As smartphones are our closest companions they become virtual mirror images of our identity, they reveal intimate data.

Monika

Monika, the visual microphone is based on Machine Learning. It doesn‘t pick up sound, but takes photos. First we start the training phase: A pedal triggers the integrated webcam. Thirty slightly varying images of the same gesture are enough for the system to identify them later and assign them to a range of given audio tracks. If you show your teeth, an I-sound can be heard. A wide open mouth produces an A-sound. Now the performance can begin. A background beat runs over the loudspeakers. As soon as the microphone recognizes the gestures, the vocals are played. Alternative writing tools

A pen should do one thing in particular: write. In addition, it should also feel good in the hand, look great and last a long time. I decided to avoid such expectations and to change the focus.

Rotational casting

Porcelain knows many states. Porcelain can be hard as a rock and very soft. Like any other fluid, porcelain is dynamic in a certain state. In my project ‚fluid forms‘ I tried to transfer this dynamic state into a solid form by using a special casting process. The high rotation during casting creates unique pieces that balance between light and heavy, defined and random.

Blinder Fleck

Blinder Fleck

Guerilla cinema project

Halle has a large number of unused rooms. Once a month we went to such a place, cleaned up, built seats and invited people. Our rules were simple: we visit each place only once. We leave it in a better condition than when we found it. We work with the materials that the place offers us. And we do not celebrate parties. In this way we reactivated abandoned places through film screenings.

Interactive Windows

overcome glass barriers

Interactive display windows inspire by overcoming the boundary between indoor and outdoor space. Instead of wireless interactivity via display or gesture control, this design features a classic rotary control. Haptics becomes an experience again. An optical sensor enables this type of control without physically penetrating the pane. The electronics remain protected from external influences in the room. There, in this installation, a plotter is controlled, which initially attracts attention, and eventually the play instinct, through constant movement. The application example shows: In this way, a shop window can be individualized, versatile and spontaneously create a new lasting impression.

Display Me

Interactive installation

We are increasingly communicating in virtual space. Interpersonal exchange is no longer immediate. Screens separate us from each other. Thus, the screen also became the starting point for the Display Me experiment.

Display Me

Interactive installation

A mask with an integrated display is the experimental object. Here, the face is shown digitally to the viewer from the outside, while the person under the mask remains blind and unable to see, and is not immersed in any virtual reality. From the outside, however, one gets a glimpse. Thus, the counterpart stands in front of an avatar and has to find out whether body and digital face belong together. Questions about the authenticity of digital self-representation open up. What is the relationship between the display ego and what lies beneath the mask? And to what extent is communication distorted when facial expressions are digitally packaged? It is the encounters and the resulting questions about the boundaries between virtuality and reality that make up Display Me.
